Cracks in floors or walls can be a sign of structural movement that can endanger homes. Depending on the situation, cracks can lead to water leakage and flooding as they permit moisture to enter the home.
While there are a variety of different types and causes of cracks – and while some cracks may be harmless – it’s best to have any floor or wall crack professionally inspected by an expert.

Floor cracks. Cracked floors can allow water to rise through your floor slab and into your home. These are sometimes caused by foundational shifts or settling soil.
Vertical wall cracks. These cracks are typically the least severe type (although professional inspection is still recommended, and severity may vary from home to home). They’re commonly caused by the settling of the home’s foundation.
Diagonal wall cracks. These cracks may start along the foundation and run at a 35 to 70 degree angle, likely with a wider opening at one end than the other. These are often caused by uneven foundation settling and often require repair.
Horizontal wall cracks. Horizontal wall cracks are often the most critical type of crack to repair. These may signal serious damage to your home’s structural integrity. They’re usually caused by soil pressure and bowed walls.
Stair-step cracks. Stair-step cracks occur in concrete block or other CMU walls and foundations. They’re usually caused by structural movement and should be inspected by a professional.
Direct drainage channel installation. This helps to direct any water that comes through the crack into your drain and sump pump.
Filling and covering cracks. For floor cracks, we can backfill cracks with stone and cover them with fresh concrete to resolve the issue or use crack injections with Carbon Fiber Staples. For wall cracks, we often use an innovative polyurethane sealant called FlexiSpan® that provides a durable, waterproof seal even in the event of natural foundation wall movement.
Window drainage systems. If water is leaking in through cracks around the window frame, we can create a drainage system that channels water into your sump pump. We can additionally create a small hole under the window to direct any excess water into the drainage system.

“Dave was super responsive and went above and beyond in getting my basement project completed. He kept in regular contact with me on updates to the project, expected delivery of materials, and on permitting status. Very reliable and did a terrific job on my basement retaining wall.”
“First of all, I don’t usually do reviews; however, I was so impressed with the guys at Mission Home Services that I felt the need to let others know. We had them out to inspect our basement and give us an estimate on waterproofing it for future renovations. The representatives gave us a great education on not only how a basement leaks, but also how ours was leaking and the correct method to fix it. We highly recommend this company!”
